Turf Laying Tips

Brand new turf is gives your lawn a great new feeling, the sooner you order your lawn turf, the sooner your friends and family can reap the benefits. If you are comfortable laying turf yourself, this can save a bit of cash. To get the best results, here are some helpful tips to get you started:

  • Remove existing turf with a spade.
  • Rake the ground until the surface is level
  • Remove rocks, garbage and all other debris
  • Walking slowly with one foot in front of the other, trod down the whole area starting from one corner (If you find uneven areas, use a rake to level them).
  • When your turf has been delivered, store it in a shaded area until you are ready to lay it.
  • For the best results, lay the turf within 24-hours of delivery.
  • Of course, if you’re not comfortable laying turf yourself, we suggest you hire a professional.

Measuring Your Lawn Lawn Turf Area

To calculate the amount of turf you require, you will need to measure the area to be turfed. Please remember to allow between 5% and 10% extra for trimming and wastage.

Measure your required area both lengthways and widthways and times both figures together (Please measure in feet, metres or yards) - With the total figure you calculate, and a further 5% or 10% to compensate for your wastage.

Example: 30 feet x 25 feet = 750 sq ft + 10% (Wastage allowance) = a total of 825 sq ft turf needed to cover your area.
